Sand casting is the common casting method, followed by special casting methods, such as: metal mold casting, investment casting, gypsum casting, etc. Sand casting can be divided into clay sand mold, organic binder sand mold, resin self hardening sand mold, lost foam mold and so on.
The principle of casting method selection is as follows
The main reason is that the cost of sand casting is lower than other casting methods, the production process is simple and the production cycle is short. When the wet mold can not meet the requirements, the clay sand surface dry sand mold, dry sand mold or other sand mold should be considered. The casting weight of clay green sand casting can be from several kilograms to tens of kilograms, while the casting produced by clay dry mold can weigh dozens of tons.
2. The casting method should be suitable for the batch production. Low pressure casting, die casting, centrifugal casting and other casting methods are only suitable for mass production because of the high cost of equipment and mold.
3. Molding method should be suitable for factory conditions.
For example, in the production of large machine tool bed and other castings, the core assembly method is generally adopted, instead of making patterns and sandboxes, the cores are assembled in the pit; in other factories, the sand box molding method is used to make the patterns. Different enterprises' production conditions (including equipment, site, staff quality, etc.), production habits and accumulated experience are different. According to these conditions, we should consider what products are suitable for and what products are not (or cannot) be made.
The precision and cost of castings should be considered.
